vaccine.jpgThere are various vaccinations available at the clinic.  These are the main ones to think about:

Pentacel -  Given at childhood.   Protects against diptheria, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, h.flu (ear infections) , and tetanus

Quadracel - Given at 4 years of age. Like Pentacel but without the polio vaccine.

MMR - Protects against measles and mumps and rubella.  Given two times in the childhood years, and important for pregnant woman to have (before they get pregnant).

Varicella - For Chicken Pox

Prevnar - For children from birth to 9 years old. Helps reduce the risk of pneumonia, ear infections, and meningitis (pneumococcal strain)

Menjugate - For anyone.  This covers against some common causes of meningitis.

Tetanus -  For childhood, and required in adulthood every10 years. Protects agains lock jaw from cuts and burns.

Flu Shot -  Available yearly in the fall.

Pneumovax - Protection against pneumonia.  Recommended after 60 years of age.

Talk to your doctor about which ones you need, and the side effects that are possible.  For the most part, the benefits of these vaccines outweigh the risks, depending on the age group it is given in.
