Botox Questions/Answers

cquestion.jpgDr. Esmond will answer your botox and cosmetic questions in this section.

Feel free to ask me any questions related to Botox or cosmetic dermatology.

I'll start with the first one. A common question i am usually asked is how many units of botox do i need?

The number of units depends on how big and strong the muscles are that are creating the wrinkles. Botox relaxes the muscle for 4 to 6 months and this is what creates the wonderful effect. The following are rough estimates. Some people may need an additional 5 to 10 units per area. This extra dosage is usually given 2 weeks after the first treatment.

Forehead (upper) wrinkles - 15 units

Fold between eye brows - 25 units

Crow's Feet (around eyes) - 10 to 15 units per side

Upper lip (to help with wrinkles, and make upper lip slightly more visible) - 4 to 5 units

We also can treat neck lines, chin dimpling, and the band on the neck that goes from the upper jaw to the lower neck. Other uses for botox include treating TMJ pain, Migraines, Neck Spasm.

Can anyone give Botox Injections?

In Canada only medical doctors are allowed to give the injections. I have heard of some clinics where the plastic surgeon allows his nurse to give it to the patient. At our clinic, the botox is only given out by medical doctors.

Hello,

I have read that botox is effective in controlling in eye twitching.

Do you offer this procedure at your clinic, If yes what is the effectiveness and cost of the treatment ? Are there any risks associated with this treatment ?

I have persistent twitching in lower eyelid of left eye.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Ajay.

Yes, eye twitch is treated with botox. The cost is 450$ for both eyes, and most insurances cover this cost. If you don't have an insurance, let us know, and we will give you a discount.
